Zelma M. Chesney, 87, of 125 28th St. Ct., died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center from complication of a stroke. The family will greet friends Saturday, February 12, 2005, from 1-3 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum and will be conducted by Rev. Del Bear.

Survivors include her son, Gary W. Chesney and wife Pamela of San Jose, California; a daughter, Anne E. Chesney of Marion; four grandchildren, Doug W. Chesney and wife Cindy of Redwood City, California, Steve K. Chesney who is currently attending Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C., Patti A. Herman of Marion and John P. King Jr. who is serving with the U.S. Army, stationed in Iraq at this time; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew J. Herman of Marion and Kai Powell of Ohio.

Also surviving are a sister, Gertie Graves of Rowlett, Texas; and a brother, Virgil Braton of Baldwin, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers.

Zelma was born July 22, 1917, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of George N. and Etta (Nations) Braton. She had been a resident of Marion for the last 41 years. She married Ralph J. Chesney on August 6, 1938, at Shawnee, Kansas. They lived in Galesburg, Illinois and Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa. Zelma worked at the Palmolive Co. in Kansas City, Missouri and at her and her husbands car sales business in Galesburg, Illinois.
