Woodrow “Woodie” W. Bontrager, 93, of Walker, Iowa, died at home Saturday, August 18, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the United Methodist Church, Walker, Iowa, by the Rev. Norm Kelley. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. Burial: Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, Iowa, with military honors by American Legion Ray Post #376, Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Carol (Jerry) Wagers, Las Vegas, Nevada, Phyllis (Ray) Moats, Nevada, Debra (Zachary) Ruffin, Hawaii, Karen (Mike) Bullard, Cedar Rapids and Russell (Tami Lawler-Bontrager) Bontrager, Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents.
Born May 29, 1919, in Kalona, Iowa, Woodrow was the son of William and Mary (DeWees) Bontrager. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army in Okinawa. On December 23, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was united in marriage to Betty Johnson. He worked in real estate for 30 years.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, private pilot and photographer. He loved westerns and always dreamed of going to Alaska.
Woodrow was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walker and the American Legion Ray Post #376.
