Winnie A. Henderson, 106, formerly of Central City, died Sunday, March 2, 2014. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at United Church of Christ in Central City by Rev. Vicki Engelman. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Survivors include her children, Merle (Verla) Henderson of Coggon, Wally (Donna) Henderson of Central City, Gerald (Judith) Henderson of Marion, Garnet Henderson of Cedar Rapids, and Marilyn Hejda of Cedar Rapids; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her sister, Edith Holub of Cascade; brother, Howard (Lillian) Burnside of Central City; and brother-in-law, Marvin Ellwood of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Keith; three grandchildren, Kevin Henderson, Dean Henderson, and LouAnn Timmerman; and two sisters, Mildred Smith and Lois Ellwood.

Winnie was born August 2, 1907, the daughter of Wallis and Minnie (Smith) Burnside in Central City. On September 30, 1927, she married Lloyd C. Henderson. He died May 23, 1987. She was a member of United Church of Christ where she quilted for many years. Winnie was a 4-H leader, a member of RW&O, the Historical Society, Literary Club, and Piecemaker’s Sewing Club. She also taught school for one year.

A memorial fund has been established in Winnie’s memory.
