Wilma R. “Cookie” Politis, 94, of 2425 Teresa Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, with her family by her side. Services: 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son Larry (Pat) McNeal of Manchester; daughter, Nancy (Russ) Franck of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Chelsea Franck, Kelly Buckley and Mike McNeal; and great grandchildren, McKayla Beltz, Shae Beltz and Brianna McNeal.
Cookie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her son, Wayne McNeal; and siblings, Ann Novak, Agnes Stanek, Eleanor Hlaveck, Carrie Beranek, Milo, George, Wes, Joe and Alois Zach.
Born August 6, 1915, in Swisher, Iowa, Cookie was the daughter of Joseph and Anne Zach. On April 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to George Politis in Little Rock, Arkansas. After 37 years of employment, she retired from Wilson Foods.
Cookie was a member of the P3 Union Hall and the Jim Beam Bottle Club.
Her joys were gardening, fishing, birds, crafts, gambling trips and spending time at her cabin in Delhi. She loved people and life and her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
