Willis Jay Lillie, 81, of 3753 Lillie Rd., Marion, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Marion Christian Church, by Rev. Dr. Robert Kunz. Following the service, a meal will be served at the church. Per Willis’ request, there will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Marion; his son, John Jay (Jana) Lillie of Orem Utah; his daughter, Dee (Kurt) Luedtke of Marion; a sister, Jane Mollenhauer of Hiawatha; and 5 grandsons, Aaron Jay, Braden Kemp, and Colton Grant Lillie; Adam Jay Conover, and Cameron Harwood Luedtke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Willis was born March 9, 1928, the son of Daniel and Lillie (Slater) Lillie on the family farm in Linn County, Iowa. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1945 and married Beverly Henderson on April 18, 1954 in Central City. Willis was a lifetime farmer in Linn County and a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marion Christian Church, a charter member of the Alburnett Lion’s Club, a former President of the Alburnett Boosters Club, and served a term on the Linn County Extension Board. His passions were his grandsons. Two of Willis’ favorite pastimes were restoring tractors and square dancing.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to St. Luke’s Hospice and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
