Willis “Bill” Wyatt Townsend, Sr., 71, of 604 Broadway, Springville, Iowa, died suddenly on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa by Rev. Jack Ray. Friends may call from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean of Springville; two sons, Willis Townsend, Jr., of Scotch Grove and Jeffery (Kathy) Townsend of Park Rapids, Minnesota; one daughter, Teresa (Dale) Townsend-Miller of Des Moines; one grandson, Zeb Townsend of Des Moines; nieces and nephews Charles, James, Rex, Rick, Donald, Inez, LaVonne, Anthony and James Russell; a half-sister, Mable and a half-brother, Danny.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
Bill was born September 3, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Charles and Inez Townsend. He married Norma Jean Watters on May 12, 1956 in Keokuk, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and later worked at ADM for 18 years, retiring in 1990.
Bill enjoyed his gardening, hunting and fishing. Bill loved to help neighbors and family.
A memorial fund has been established in Bill’s name.
