Wesley was born October 5, 1918, to Bruce and Pearle Ondler Waterhouse in rural Linn County. On May 10, 1938, he married Helen Marie Havlik, who currently resides in Iowa City. They lived and farmed on farms Northwest of Central City until they moved with their family to Central City. In 1947, Wesley entered the auction business along with farming, livestock buying and building City Sales Company (a livestock auction market in Central City) in 1948.

On June 1, 1969, he married Maurine Bicknell Vargason. No children were born to this union, but in Wesley?s words "Tootie? has been a super mother to my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren?. They lived in Central City and Wesley continued in the auction business until he retired in 1982. In 1983, he and his son, Marvin and two other partners built Manchester Livestock Auction in Manchester.

In addition to his family, Wesley loved being with people and over the years often said he was blessed to have met and become acquainted with the best people in the entire world---the people of Northeast Iowa.
