William Charles Tipton
May 9, 1934 — April 18, 2008
William Charles Tipton, 73, of 370 8th Ave., Marion, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; his daughter, Stephanie (Edward) Karr of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Edith Tipton of Des Moines; his sister, Judy Armstrong of Des Moines; and a nephew, Ric Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fulton C. Tipton.
Bill was born May 9, 1934, the son of Fulton and Edith (Pugh) Tipton in Des Moines. He graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1952. On July 14, 1962, he married Carol L. Gale in Rockford, Iowa. Bill worked for Rockwell Collins for thirty-nine years before retiring in 1995. He was an avid motor sports fan and member of the Iowa Region of the S.C.C.A. Bill spent many summers working at various sports car races.
