William J. Struve, 93, a resident of Sunnycrest Nursing Center, Dysart, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the care center, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Belle Plaine, by President Eric Van Alstine. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: National Cemetery, Vining, Iowa, with military rites.
Survivors include his children, Bill (Bert) Struve of Palo, Iowa, Lucille Baldwin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Yvonne Salmon of Crescent City, Florida, Dwaine Struve of Donna, Texas, Donna (Don) Forrester of Elberon, Iowa, Mary Lou Matheny of Mesa, Arizona, Jeannette (Rick) Ross of Dickson, Tennesee, Ramona (Dennis) Purcell of Van Horne, Iowa, Terry Struve of Pasadena, California, and Rachel (Randy) Bulman of Blairstown, Iowa; 37 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia; a brother, Ray; and two sisters, Hazel and Millie.
William was born November 5, 1909, the son of John and Lena Nebendahl Struve, in Elberon, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. William retired as an equipment operator for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. His memories will be treasured by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of William.
