William Schminkey, 54, of 1919 Western Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, died July 27, 2005, in his home after a long battle with cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Monday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; four children, William Joseph Schminkey, Alisha Marie Schminkey, Damon Lee Smith, and Jamison Lynn Smith, all of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Sam Schminkey of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Diana Lynn Schminkey of Milford, Iowa.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cynthia Fritz; a great-nephew, Jeffrey Stewart; and a niece, Michelle Bruce.
William was born the son of Sam and Martha Schminkey on July 11, 1951, in Van Horne, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Dougherty on July 25, 1987, in Cedar Rapids. William was a roofer and also worked in the foundry at Iowa Steel & Iron.
William enjoyed old cars, as well as working on cars, fishing, and working in his garage. He loved his grandchildren and family.
