William F. Reth, 93, of Delhi, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Delhi United Methodist Church in Delhi by Rev. Lorraine Hartman. Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Taylorville Cemetery in Arlington, Iowa.
William was born December 2, 1915 in Delaware County the son of William and Logina (Meiners) Reth. He grew up farming in Delaware County and for four years, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. William was married in 1946. Following his divorce he moved to Delhi. He became a contractor for the American Farm Store in Oelwein. After installing grain bins for several years, he was sent to South Korea to help establish the first grain storage system in that country. William retired in 2004.
William was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Arlington and the Delhi Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a Farm Bureau member and a life member of the American Legion Post #160.
William is survived by one daughter, Eileen (Duane) Franks of Waukon; one granddaughter, Crystal (Andy) Gassaman, and one great-granddaughter, Tayla Gassaman; three sisters, Viola Reth of Delhi, Verna (Archie) Euwer of Palmer, AK, Irene (Dean) Curtis of Decatur, IL; three brothers, Lloyd (Irma) Reth of Delhi, Earl Reth of Marion, and Melvin (Margaret) Reth of Oskaloosa, IA.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William & Logina Reth; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Reth in 1962; sisters, Louise (Ed) Ashland, Mildred (Fred) Cooksley; one brother, Harold (Alberta) Reth and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Reth.
