William "Jack? Miller, 84, formerly of Edgewood, Iowa, died in his home at 3095 15th Ave., Marion, on Monday, July 14, 2003. Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Graveside inurnment services: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenhill Cemetery, rural Edgewood, Iowa, with military rites by Edgewood American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, June; his children, Phyllis Smith (Stan) of Walker, John J. Miller (Patricia) of Marion and Robert J. Miller (JoAnn) of Marion; twelve grandchildren, Robin (Smith) Amfahr, Cathi Smith, William Smith, Kelley Miller, Shawn Smith, Carey (Miller) Studier, Shanna Miller, Emi (Dyrland) Chapman, Brooke (Miller) Schulte, Addy Miller, Clint Miller and Ryan Miller; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Ash of Edgewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ellen Miller; a granddaughter, Erin Jane Miller; and four sisters, Opal Knapp, Orpha Schrandt, Iota Tremaine and Dorothy Gearhart.
Jack was born August 25, 1918, in Edgewood, Iowa, the son of William James Miller and Ellen Stone Miller. He was united in marriage to June E. Rhines on September 7, 1940, at St. Luke?s Methodist Church in Dubuque. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Jack farmed for nearly forty-five years and was instrumental in establishing and operating many businesses in and around Edgewood, including Edgewood Propane Gas Company and the Edgewood Sales Barn. Jack was a member of the Edgewood American Legion.
