William “Bill” Luko, 76, of 1475 Brockman Ave., died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, from complications of cancer. Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Mike Morgan. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Joy of Marion; his children, Rene (Brian) Horak of Mechanicsville, Linda (Randy) Luko-Olson of Ringsted, Karen (Rick) Hopson of Ballston Spa, New York, and William E. Luko of Olathe, Kansas; a brother, David (Donna) Luko of Bloomfield; a sister, Lyndell (Norman) Richardson of Des Moines; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was born August 26, 1931, the son of Walter and Emma (Bollman) Luko in Davis County. On April 9, 1955, he married Joy Ann Owens in Selma, Arkansas. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bill worked at Peter Pan Bakery in Cedar Rapids for twelve years and then at Iowa Manufacturing as a machinist for thirty-two years, retiring in 1997. He was also a school bus driver for Linn-Mar Community School District for eighteen years. Bill was lead guitarist for Marty and the Sundowners Band for seven years.
Bill enjoyed his time with family and friends for breakfast outings. He was an avid country music fan and history buff.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and VFW Post No. 788.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
