William C. Hall, 83, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the care center, following a lingering illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Central City by Rev. Nick Needham. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Blodgett Cemetery, rural Central City with Military rites by American Legion Wapsi Post #421.
Survivors include his children, Owen (Cork) Hall of Central City, William Hall Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Mary E. Berry of Washington, Pennsylvania and Al Hall of Marion; a sister, Elma Wright of California; six grandchildren, Kris, Mike and Tyler Hall, Billie- Sue Riley, Melissa Berry and Andrew Hall; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; two brothers, Lester and Carroll Hall; and three sisters, Esther Bremer, Hester Ramsey and Mary Maxine Hall.
William was born October 3, 1920, the son of Charles F. and Bertha J. (Cook) Hall in Central City. On April 4, 1941, he married Elizabeth "Betty? Eilers. She died February 9, 2003. William served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. William was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rural Letter Carriers Association, past Secretary of the Central City Community School, a Charter Member of the North Linn Fish and Game Club, American Legion Wapsi Post #421 and the Amateur Trap Shooters Association.
