William "Pete? Armand Edgar, 78, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 19, 2004, at the center following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2004, at St. Ludmilas Catholic Church by Rev. Tom McDermott. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A vigil service begins at 6:30, followed by military rites. Friends may also call from noon to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Roszella; a daughter, Pamela Edgar of Venice, California; a brother, Richard (Louise) Edgar of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marilyn Palmer of Cedar Rapids; his brothers-in-law, Darwin Stoner of Moberly, Missouri, Jack Stoner of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Raymond Stoner and Mike McCoy, both of Newton, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Grace Braaksma of Newton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara Hendricks, and an infant sister, Mary Louise.
Pete was born September 16, 1925, the son of William A. and Agnes F. (Womochil) Edgar, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Roszella Stoner on June 25, 1948, at St. Ludmilas Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Pete worked for the railroad in his younger years and then was a driver for Century Cab for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Hanford #5, VFW #788, The Forty and Eight and Disabled American Veterans. Pete will be remembered for his wry sense of humor. He loved horse racing and made many trips to Chicago for the races. He will be greatly missed.
