William J. Drummy, 76, of Ryan died Friday, September 3, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after a sudden illness.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Ryan. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. The Rosary will be recited at 2:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.

William was born the son of Earl A. and Loretta (Brickley) Drummy on March 15, 1928 on his parents? farm in Hazel Green Township. He graduated in 1945 from St. John?s school in Ryan and attended Loras College in Dubuque. On December 27, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Virginia McMahon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. In May of 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army and spent two years at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO during the Korean Conflict. Bill then returned to Ryan where he farmed and raised hogs until his retirement.

Bill was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Ryan. He was a past-member of the Ryan American Legion Post #692 and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Bill and Virginia enjoyed traveling together and wintering in Texas. He also enjoyed having early morning coffee with his friends at "Possehl?s? in Ryan and "What-A-Burger? in Texas.

Bill is survived by his wife, Virginia Drummy of Ryan; four daughters, Carol (Terence) Crowley and Ellen (Daniel) Covington, both of Coggon, Marie (Bill) Hunt of Hopkinton, & Rita (Robert) Engler of Plymouth, MN; four sons Patrick (Wilene) Drummy of Marion, Daniel (Jean) Drummy and Thomas (Suzanne) Drummy, both of Ryan, & Joseph Drummy (Heidi Galfano) of Brooklyn, IA; and eighteen grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Loretta Drummy; a son, John on March 3, 1997; and a grandson Marcus on August 28, 2001.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
