William “Bill” E. McNitt, 62, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, November 3, 2014, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin, following a sudden illness with his beloved dog, Oli. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Charlie; his children, Amy (Randy) Venzke of LeClaire, Iowa, and their children, Grace, 15, and George, 13, Angela McNitt of Cedar Rapids, and her son William, 6; father, Bert (Wanda) McNitt of Vinton, Iowa; and sisters, Ruth McNitt of Brandon, Iowa, and Donna (Danny) Jewell of Marion, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myra Reeve and Albert McNitt, Sr. and Raymond and Lula Asher Dunn; and his mother, Mary “Marge” McNitt.
Bill was born on February 10, 1952, in Bixby, Missouri, son of Rosalie Dunn and Bert McNitt. He graduated from Marion High School, Marion, Iowa. He married Charlie Harford on May 27, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bill worked as an Owner/operator as a semi-truck driver currently hauling for JMS in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Bill loved being on the road and driving his truck with his roadside companion, Oli, his Boston terrier. He loved doing projects around the house; he also loved music, movies, and spending time with his wife and family. Bill loved hanging around the casino at times especially the black jack tables. He always enjoyed his “fun” days, as he liked to call them.
