William “Bill” C. Jess Jr., 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 28, 2015 at Hospice of the Valley, in Mesa, Arizona due to complications after surgery. Per Bill’s wishes, his body was cremated. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; sisters, Tammy (Russ) Banks-Bailey of Waterloo, Sheryl (Jerry) Mosley-Gatewood, of Wisconsin, Sharon (Jim) Mosely-Selix of Waterloo, and Patricia Hawes of Florida; and brothers, Dave (Robin) Stapp of Texas and Brian (Trina) Pittman of Waterloo. Also surviving are six step children; five step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Virginia (Benham) Jess; sister, Dixie; daughter, Kim; and first wife, Mary.
Bill was born August 28, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. Bill was a project manager for Novak Plumbing and Heating until retiring in 2009. He was a member of the American Legion Post #298, VFW, and the Elks Club. Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, wintering in Arizona, bingo, fun trips to the casinos, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
