William “Bill” T. Grant, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 28, 2017, just shy of his 85th birthday. He grew up in Central City. He was born the son of Joseph and Esther (Clark) Grant.
Bill joined the service and served his country honorably in the Korean War. He later moved to Marion Iowa, where he used his masterful skills to build his first house. Most of his life was spent in Cedar Rapids with his wife of fifty years, Mary Jeanine Thompson, and four children. Bill worked as a farmer, had his own barbershop for a short while, and then retired from the United States Post Office. Bill moved to Des Moines in 2016 to be near his daughter. He was a member of the American Legion Wapsie Post #421. He also enjoyed home-cooked meals and family gatherings.
Surviving are two sons, Dan Grant and Ken (Melissa) Grant, both of Center Point, Iowa, and two daughters, Sherry Gillmore of Buda, Texas and Cynthia (Scott) Sturtz of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He had twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Duane (Glenda) Grant of Central City and a sister, Margret Kula of Wisconsin. His wife, parents, and two brothers, Donald and James, preceded him in death.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Bill Bird. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
