William “Bill” Raymond Flattery, Sr., 79, of Marion, formerly of Ft. Dodge, died peacefully on Friday, August 05, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. There will be no visitation. Private family inurnment, Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post #298 of Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Jody (Gary) Budreau of Macomb, IL, Cindy (Rick) VanDerMillen of Marion, Suzanne (Rob) Hartkemeyer of Hiawatha, and Bill, Jr. of Marion; 5 step-children, Francis (Julie) Lins of Marshalltown, Mary (Kevin) Lynch of Phoenix, AZ, Alyce Kelley of Des Moines, Peggy (Bob) Lewis of Marshalltown, and Evette (Dan) Dombrosky of Ashburn, VA; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Janice Flattery of Des Moines, and Mary Flattery of York, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; 2 children, Mark Stevens and Roxanne Sullivan; and a brother, Robert Flattery.
Bill was born December 2, 1931, in Ft. Dodge, the son of Leo and Avis (Moore) Flattery. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Ft. Dodge, in 1949. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He earned his Engineering Degree from Iowa State University. In 1962, Bill was united in marriage to June Evelyn Campbell in Ft. Dodge. She passed away in 1997. On May 19, 2001, he married Marilyn (Johnson) Lins in Marshalltown. Bill was a Mechanical Engineer at Rockwell for over 25 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Bill was a very kind and gentle man who adored spending time with his family. He loved fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He will be greatly missed.
