William “Bill” H. Elliott, 73, of Shellsburg went home to be with our heavenly Father, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Michael Fergeson. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Roger’s Grove Cemetery, Ely, with military honors provided by American Legion Post #166 of Shellsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; children, Sherri (Bob) Rowden of Urbana, Kym (Donald) Tolley of Rougemont, NC, Kelly Elliott of Shellsburg, and Billy (Carla) Elliott of Anamosa; four grandsons, Bobby (Kristina) Rowden, Wade Rowden, Elliott Tolley, and Ryan Tolley; five sisters; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was born January 8, 1941, in Coggon, the son of William Harold and Leora (Candler) Elliott. He married Jan Dayton on January 6, 1960, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He worked for Rathje Construction for many years. Bill was a member of American Legion Post #166 of Shellsburg. He was a known prankster, and loved by many. His grandsons were his pride and joy. Bill was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.
