Willard "Bill? Walton, 89, of Center Point, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, following a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Monday, at the funeral home. Inurnment: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Jean Sherman; his daughter, Leann (Maury) Jones of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Mike (Jyl) Wyckoff of Ankeny and Sarah Wyckoff of Urbana; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Marcus, Dayton and Symone; a niece, Veleta Walton Benesh of Center Point; and many other special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Arlie and Virgil.
Bill was born September 4, 1916, the son of Arthur and Nola (Schaffer) Walton, in Troy Mills, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On June 13, 1942, he was united in marriage to Esther Jean Sherman in Kahoka, Missouri. In his early years, Bill did some farming and for 10 years was a police officer for the city of Center Point. For 32 years, he worked in sales for J.C. Penneys. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church, Center Point.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved people. Bill also loved fishing and enjoyed watching sports.
The family would like to thank the Hiawatha Care Center for the special care given Bill during his stay as well as Mercy Hospice.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Bill.
