Wilford Dean Miers, 77, of 1904 29th Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, of an apparent heart attack. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Kathy Moore of New Creation United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; his children, Danny (Mary) Miers of Carlisle, Randy (Ann) Miers of Rochester, Minnesota, Tracy (Michael) Sanden of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Florence) Miers of Baltimore; his stepchildren, Steven Aldrich of Austin, Texas, Craig (Debora) Aldrich and Kim (Tom) Lytle, both of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Scheidler, Melissa Sadler, Ryan Miers, Matthew Miers, Jeffrey Miers, Christopher Miers, Ben Miers, Matthew Lytle, Jessica Lytle, Peter Skow, Alicia Skow, and Jill Bowen; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, LaVerne (Mary) Miers of Boonville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frances Miers; and a sister, LaVonne Smith.

Dean was born February 22, 1928, the son of Fredrick and Ethel (DeWitt) Miers, in Grand Junction, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy. Dean married Violet Brown and they later divorced. On May 8, 1964, he married Virginia Satinsky in Rock Island, Illinois. A carpenter with Local 308, Dean also farmed and worked for the railroad and most recently with Webb?s Transmission Service. He was a charter member of the New Creation United Methodist Church. Dean loved to work, go camping, and he enjoyed his pets, especially his dog, Paddy.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Creation United Methodist Church in memory of Dean.
