Wilbur Elliott "Wil? Kotz, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006, in his home from complications of lung cancer. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 - 9 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Sunday, December 31, 2006, at New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton, Iowa, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Barb; two daughters, Melanie (Chad) Richter of Cedar Falls and Sarah Kotz of Des Moines; his father, Wilbur (Virginia) Kotz of New Hampton; two grandchildren, Grace and Gavin Richter; a stepgrandson, Nick Harden; his siblings, Tom (Michele) Kotz of Lamoni, Iowa, Pat Fickbohm of Des Moines, Merry (Rick) Kruger of Charles City, Robb (Cindy) Kotz of New Hampton, Kate (Mark) Van Tassel of Rochester, Minnesota, and Sue (Loren Buser) Kotz of Waterloo; his in-laws, Al and Kate Riley of New Hampton; five brothers-in-law, Bill (Judy) Riley, Steve (Deb) Riley, Tim (Deb) Riley, Richard (Denise) Riley and Tom (Jennifer) Riley, all of New Hampton; and thirty nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Altha Mae, who died in 1998; and a sister, LaLonna Kotz, who died in 1965.
Wil was born July 19, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, to Wilbur A. and Altha Mae (Elliott) Kotz. He graduated with the Class of 1964 from New Hampton High School. He was a petty officer with the U.S. Navy and served stateside during the Vietnam War. On April 19, 1969, he married Barbara Jean Riley at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in New Hampton. Wil had been employed at McClure Engineering Company of North Liberty as a construction representative.
