Wilbur D. Pillard, 88, of Coggon, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, in his home after a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, by the Rev. Diane Bishop. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 21,) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his children, Delores (Orva) McAtee of Coggon, Diane (Robert) Hamos of Keller, Texas, Donna Melchert of Tampa, Florida, Denise (Walt) Walker of Cedar Rapids and David (Wendy) Pillard of Fort Collins, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren, Gerald, Gregory and Galen McAtee, Leslie and Kerri Hamos, Jason, Trina and Alana Melchert, Nathaniel and Laura Walker, and Julia, Emily and Alyson Pillard; and eight great-grandchildren.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Fay and George Pillard; and three sisters, Edith, Kathryn and Myrtle.

Born on December 11, 1916, in rural Prairieburg, Iowa, he was the son of Louis S.and Cora C. (Smith) Pillard. Wilbur graduated from Coggon High School in 1935, and on March 7, 1941, was united in marriage to Margaret Emma Richardson in Marion. Wilbur was a lifelong farmer in the Coggon area and a lifelong member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Wilbur loved gardening and the outdoors. He will be dearly missed.
