Wesley John Panek, 74, of Marion, died Friday, August 13, 2010, at Willow Garden Care Center, Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 3 – 6 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a scripture service to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; a daughter, Julie (Allyn) Johnston of Cedar Rapids; Sons, Tom (special friend, Tracy) Panek of Aneta, North Dakota, Steve (special friend, Florence) Panek of California, and Matt (Cathy) Panek of North Liberty; 3 sisters, Mary Flickinger, Charlotte Starkey and Helen Schmueker; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 great-grandchildren, and his 4 brothers.
Wes was born July 8, 1936, the son of Frank and Blanche (Dvorak) Panek, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Janice Gosnell on May 23, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. Wes was employed by Rockwell Collins for 33 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 49 years. Wes loved his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, Cubs baseball and Hawkeye Sports.
A memorial fund has been established in Wes’ memory.
