Wayne John Wacker, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday September 7, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church located at 9000 C Avenue, in Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2017, at the church. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Springville Cemetery, in Springville. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marion is assisting the family with services.

Wayne is survived by sons, Dennis (Kathy) Wacker of Cedar Rapids and Larry (Laurie) Wacker of Anamosa; seven grandchildren, Jared (Angie) Wacker, Cason (Sarah) Wacker, Dennis John Wacker Jr., Andrea (Justin) Wasson, Amy Wacker, Angus Wacker, and Josh Wacker; six great-grandchildren, Ellie, Livie, Luke, Eli, Elianna, and Ben; sisters, Margaret “Maggie” Newman of Toddville and Barbara Wacker of California; and brothers, Carlyle (Jan) Wacker of California and Arnold Wacker of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 2005 and two sisters, Helen and Sally.

Wayne was born May 23, 1933 in Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Cecelia (Smith) Wacker. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1951. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 15, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna Lou Anderson in Amber, Iowa. Wayne worked at Northwestern Bell for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He then went to work for his son at Wacker Electric for 34 years, retiring again in 2013. Wayne was a member of the Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, Marion and the IBEW Union in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Wayne was a caring, loving, and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorials may be directed to the Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, Marion, in Wayne’s memory.
