Wayne D. Osborn, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 9, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of St. Luke’s Hospice. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dan Clark-Bridges. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Chotty (Don) DeCoster, Midge Silhanek, Sheri (Michael) Clark, Darrell Osborn, Michael Osborn and Kieth (Deb) Osborn; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Reatha, Ruth, and Irene (Leon); brothers, Oliver (Jeanette), Ramon (Nellie), Marion and Jerald (Kathy); sister-in-law, Pauline; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of 56 years, Elizabeth “Betty”; brother, Walt; sisters Blanch and Doris; sister-in-law, Beverly; brothers-in-law, Ulin; Bill, Ray , Leroy and Cecil; and nieces and nephews.
Wayne was born September 15, 1924, in Jasper County, the son of Clarence and Eva (Bailey) Osborn. He lived in the Cedar Rapids area since 1958. On March 4, 1943, he married Elizabeth. She died February 1, 1999. Wayne was a longtime farmer and retired from Rockwell Goss.
Wayne was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. His joys were farming and raising cattle, playing keno, card games, horse shoes and was an avid Cubs fan. He especially enjoyed being around his children, grandchildren, family and attending family reunions. Wayne was a loving and caring person to everyone and knew no strangers.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospice, Internists P.C. and Cardiologists P.C for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s memory.
