Wayne Joseph Holub, 67, of Coggon, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, following an extended illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Central City. A vigil service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday March 14, 2014, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City. The family will greet friends following the vigil from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Paula of Coggon; step-mother, Pat Holub of Central City; children, Matt (Wendy) Holub of Solon, Teri Holub of Palo, Kevin Hromidko of Troy Mills, and Kurtis (Danette) Hromidko of Walker; ten grandchildren; siblings, Patty (Grant) Wilken of Marion, Suzanne (Jim) Tresnak of Hiawatha, Maynard (Diane) Holub of Cedar Rapids, Carmen (Kevin) Casey of Martelle, Tammy (Mike) Hansen of Olin, and Ben Holub of Prairieburg; and his dog, Buffy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Holub; and sister-in-law, Marge Holub.

Wayne was born August 23, 1946, in Monticello, the son of Stanley and LaVern (Schockemoehl) Holub. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1964. Wayne was united in marriage to Paula Serbousek on June 24, 1977, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a Purchasing agent and Inventory Supervisor. Wayne was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Coggon. He was a man of strong faith, who not only lived it, but shared it. Wayne liked to dance, ride his motorcycle, and could really get into a good book. He loved and enjoyed all of his grandkids. Wayne was a passionate gardener, and shared his knowledge with his children. He and Paula enjoyed many impromptu trips together.
