Wayne F. Campbell, 75, of 2776 Royal Oaks Dr. NW, Swisher, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a courageous battle with melanoma. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. Burial: 3 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Michael (Darcy) Campbell of Carson City, Nevada; a daughter, Lynn (Bobbie) Salazar of Hope Mills, North Carolina; three stepdaughters, Shari (Todd) Lewison, Lisa (Doug) Johnson and Kristin (Tom) Angellotti, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Brayden and Carter Campbell, Peter and Daniel Lewison, Allie, Bradley and Lauren Johnson, and Cara and McKenna Angellotti; a sister, Eleanor Brekke of Flower Mound, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Sally Schmid of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Bullis of DeLand, Florida, Geri Shaw of Glendale, California, and Elsie Youngstrom of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ilene; and a brother, Clair Campbell.
Wayne was born July 9, 1930, the son of Franklin and Lillian (Webert) Campbell, in Marshalltown, Iowa. A Waterloo West High School graduate, he was a 20 year Navy SEABEE Veteran. On June 15, 1953, Wayne married Ilene Gordon. She died November 10, 1986. He then married Mary (Berlin) Nelson on March 7, 1992, in Cedar Rapids. Wayne worked in sales for AT & T, retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service.
Wayne was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers. He loved to golf, travel, and enjoyed biking. Wayne loved life and was very active up until he became ill. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or the First Lutheran Church in memory of Wayne.
