Wayne D. Bryant August 27, 1931 – October 11, 2019 Wayne D. Bryant of Marion, Iowa passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Hemphill Hospice unit at St. Luke’s from complications of mesothelioma. All are welcome to attend a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at the El Kahir Shrine, 905 Tower Terrace Rd, Hiawatha, IA. Following the service the family will greet friends and family until 8:30 pm.

Wayne was born in Sheldon, Iowa. He graduated from La Moille High School in La Moille, IA.

He served four years in the US Navy on the USS Lake Champlain during the Korean war.

Wayne worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company/Alliant Energy for 36 years.

Along with his family he owned and operated the Johnson Avenue Dairy Queen in Cedar Rapids, IA for six years.

Wayne participated in the Honor Flight on May 16, 2015.

Wayne was recently presented with a Quilt of Valor by the VFW sponsored by the Marion-Cedar Rapids Optimist Club.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeannette; four daughters, Lynn Bryant Cedar Rapids, IA, Cheryl Bryant (Stephen Whittlesey) Mt. Vernon, IA, Brenda Hipp (Fred) St. Helena, CA, Kim Plath (Kirk) Castle Pines, CO; four grandchildren, Adam Hipp, Bryant Taylor (Alan), Jared Plath (Elizabeth) and Hannah Plath; and one great grandchild, Stella Taylor.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dale.

Wayne was an active volunteer involved in many community organizations:
• Mt. Herman Lodge -50+ years.
• El Kahir Shrine-50 years.
• Marion-Cedar Rapids, Optimist Club-30 years.
• United Way as an Alliant Energy (IE) loaned executive and after his retirement for 10 years.
• He was an active member of Cedar Christian and Marion Christian Churches.
• He was an avid Hawkeye fan, bowler, hunter, fisherman and golfer.
