Waunita Fern Gaddy (Blue)

Waunita Fern Gaddy, 99, a resident of Living Center East, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Friday, May 23, 2008, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Beth Straw. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her granddaughters, Vickie (Jerry) Irons of Clarence and Deb (Rick) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; four great grandchildren, Devin Irons, Aaron Irons, Alicia Anderson and Chelsea Anderson; a son-in-law, Robert Matheny of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Waunita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; her daughter, Billie Jean Matheny; a sister; and two brothers.
Waunita was born April 5, 1909, in Boynton, Missouri, the daughter of Clem and Bessie (Harrelson) Blue. On June 13, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Orville Gaddy. He died in February of 2000. She was a homemaker and also worked at Wilsons Meat Packing Plant.
Waunita was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, coffee with friends, walking at the mall and was a good cook.
Waunita was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also a very caring friend and neighbor. Family was the most important part of her life. She cherished the time the family spent together, especially the moments she spent with her great grandchildren who knew her as “G.G.”. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
