Ward L. Harbaugh, 95, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. A Memorial Service will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home conducted by Reverend Gabriel Anderson. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester at a later date.
Ward was born December 25, 1924, in Elkport, Iowa, the son of Roy and Linnie (Brown) Harbaugh. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1943. Upon graduating, Ward was drafted in to the United States Army, where he served honorably in Europe.
Ward married Elizabeth Beckmann on October 9, 1950. To this union, four children were born. Ward and Betty established their home in Manchester where Ward worked as the assistant to the County Engineer. He retired in 1980, after serving Delaware county for 40 years.
Ward took great pride in his work and treasured time spent with family and friends. He loved to read, play cards and avidly followed the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ward is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Stephen (Jane) Harbaugh of Fort Dodge, Iowa; two daughters, Diane (Kevin) Jones of Manchester and Carol (Paul) Kiernan of Rockville, Maryland; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Harbaugh; one son, David Harbaugh; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Harbaugh; his twin brother, Warren Harbaugh; and three sisters, Dorothy Nelson, Hazel Lockhart, and Erma Rush.
