Walter (Wally) Peters, 82, of Marion, passed away on August 27, 2004, from complications resulting from Alzheimer's.
Survivors include his wife Marian, 2 daughters, Georgiann Sinkey & husband Jeff, of Dublin, Ohio, Julie Ernster of Omaha, Nebraska, son Greg Peters of Cambridge, Massachusetts and 4 grandchildren.
His parents, William and Mayme Peters, and two brothers, James and Donald, preceded Wally in death.
Wally was born November 18, 1921 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He participated in the recapture of Attu and Kiska from the Japanese in 1943. At the end of the war, he was stationed near Boston until his release in 1945.
He married Marian Baumann in New Ulm, Minnesota on October 18, 1947. He graduated from Central Technical College of Kansas City, Missouri in 1949.
Wally was a founding engineer of KNUJ radio station in New Ulm, where he lived for 6 years.
Wally moved his family to Iowa in 1954 and worked for WMT/Channel 2 until his retirement in 1984.
Wally was actively involved with St. Joseph's Catholic Church and enjoyed many hobbies including amateur radio, wood and rock carving, and painting. He also enjoyed many sports, especially baseball. His family and friends will miss his good-natured smile.
