Walter R. O?Connor, 77, of Central City, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002, surrounded by his family, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City, Wisconsin, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2002, at First United Methodist Church in Central City by Rev. Nick Needham. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City with Military Rites by American Legion Wapsie Post No. 421 of Central City.
Survivors include his children, Dennis O?Connor and wife Gaby of Downey, California, Calleen Randall of Marion, Elaine Potter and Clay Dull of Maquoketa and Erin Reinicke and husband Eric of Platteville, Wisconsin; three sisters, Doris Mote, Margaret Annis, both of Central City and Katherine Mercuralli and husband Gino of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ellen Clayton.
Walter was born June 18, 1925, the son of Hugh and Bertha (Mann) O?Connor in Central City. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for 26 years as a millwright at Penick & Ford and farmed for many years in the Central City area. He was a member of American Legion Wapsie Post No. 421.
Walter was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
