Walter "Walt? John Egner, 86, of 1795 25th Ave., died Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna; three children, Dr. James R. Egner and wife, Nancy, and their children Michael, Lisa, and Eric, Gerald M. Egner and wife, Mary Pat and their son, Tom and Dr. Carol A. Egner and husband, Dr. Eben C. Cobb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Walt was born June 12, 1920, the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Heckler) Egner in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He graduated from Indiana University in 1942. Walt served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as an accountant for Waukesha Motor Company before moving to the Cedar Rapids area. He then worked as treasurer for Cedar Rapids Engineering, which later became Kwik-Way. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
