W. Dixon Caryl, 62, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois of pulmonary arterial hypertension while waiting for a lung transplant with his family at his bedside. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. At 8:00 p.m., the Level Lodge #284 of Central City will provide a Masonic Service. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City. Immediately following burial, a Celebration of Life will be held at American Legion Wapsie Post #421 in Central City.

Dixon is survived by his wife, Robin; son, Eric (Nicole); grandchildren, Tessa, Rachael, and Kanye; two sisters, Jackie (Don) Butler of Coggon, and Bobbie Caryl of Marion; niece, Deidra (Kyle) Anderson of Des Moines; nephews, Derek Blin of Chicago, Illinois, Mark (Laura) Butschi of Robins; and great-nieces Morgan and Tatum.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Thomas Butschi; and brother-in-law, Keith Blin.

Dixon was born March 21, 1953, the son of, George and Betty (Butters) Caryl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating from high school, Dixon drove the Caryl Cleaners delivery truck. He then worked at Lumber businesses such as Marion Cashway, Great Plains, and Spahn and Rose. He ended his career at Re Vos Wel Truss and Lumber as part owner. Dixon enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a master of fishing, hunting, trapping, pool, and wood crafting. He also enjoyed playing cards and golfing.

He enjoyed spending time with his best friend and companion, Robin, at their home, the Mississippi River, or wherever. He was a life teacher to his son, Eric, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He always wanted to spend as much time with them as he could enjoying their activities.

Dixon was a 33rd Degree Mason, a life-time member of Level Lodge #284 in Central City, and an El Kahir Shriner. He was also a member of North Linn Fish & Game club.
Dixon was a people person who was a friend to many. He was honest and trustworthy. He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. He had high standards for himself and those around him. He will be missed more than words can express.
