Vivienne Elizabeth Croft Dowell, 93, a resident of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Norwalk, Iowa, Apache Junction, Arizona, and Arnolds Park, Iowa, died Saturday, September 24, 2005, in the care center, following a short illness. There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Norwalk Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Bill) Carmichael of Milford, Iowa, and Jane (Tom) Cox of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Julie (Anthony Solimini) Carmichael, of Hong Kong, Stacey (Steve) Eidsvold, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tara (Kevin Kearns) Carmichael of Vancouver, BC, Canada, Holly (Chad) Nicholls, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Michelle (Larry) Walker of Apopka, Florida, and Donald Atkinson of Norwalk, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren, Justin and Tara Walker, Michael and Amanda Atkinson, Luke and Ellie Eidsvold, and Billy and Anna Nicholls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Delta Galpin Johnson.
Vivienne was born January 25, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Effie Galpin, in Ottumwa, Iowa. In 1931, she married Vergal Raymond Croft. He died in 1976. Vivienne then married Horace Dowell in 1978. He died in 1982. A homemaker, she loved her family and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and summers at Lake Okoboji. She was a member of the Norwalk Christian Church in Norwalk and has lived in the Cedar Rapids area for the last six years.
