Vivian (Hilleary) Barnes, 89, of Marion, died at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, conducted by Rev. Mike Morgan. Private Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Maurice; children, Jennifer (Mark) Reinhardt of Eagan, MN, and Gwendolyn Barnes-Karol (Robert Karol) of Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughters, Meredith and Hilleary Reinhardt; nephew, Roger Noel; and niece, Janis Hendrickson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathryn Noel; and a nephew, Charles Noel.
Vivian was born on July 3, 1924, in Rose Hill, IA, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (Roozeboom) Hilleary. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School where she completed normal training to be certified as a teacher. On May 27, 1954, she was united in marriage to Maurice E. Barnes, in Oskaloosa. Vivian taught for twelve years in a one-room school house. After starting a family, she spent her time as a homemaker and volunteer.
Vivian was very involved with the First United Methodist Church and various women’s groups. She loved to cook, sew, garden, and entertain. She especially enjoyed woodworking making wooden toys, nativity sets, and crosses. Vivian’s faith, family, and friends were the most important things in her life.
