Virginia Mae Tschopp, 79, of 1604 14th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jack Kendall. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Vernon Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
Survivors include her children, Mark (Marsha) Tschopp of Cedar Rapids, David Tschopp of Palm Desert, California, Deborah Tschopp of Freeport, Illinois and Deanna Sump (Dale) of Ft. Hood, Texas; her grandchildren, Mark Tschopp, Jr. (Meredith) of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Tschopp of Des Moines, Iowa, Megan Tschopp of Cedar Rapids, David Brandon Tschopp of Palm Desert, California, Kyle and Kody Sump of Cherokee, Iowa; a great-grandchild, Samuel Becher Tschopp of Atlanta, Georgia; and a sister, Mary Ellen Dill of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin; and a sister, Elaine Miller.
Virginia was born December 22, 1927, the daughter of Thomas and Mae (Burge) Dill, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On July 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Erwin J. Tschopp. He died December 20, 1982. A 1946 graduate from Wilson High School, Virginia worked for Penick & Ford from 1946 to 1948 and retired from the Jefferson High School Cafeteria. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, playing cards with her friends, gardening and teaching her granddogs tricks. Virginia will always be loved and missed by all.
