Virginia M. Heaton, 80, of 3010 Wilson Avenue SW, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at St. Mary?s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church, by the Rev. Jay Jentink and Rev. Dale Phelps. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Randy) Hays of Lenexa, Kansas; and a son, David (Tina) Heaton of High Point, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Erin, Jill, Meghan and Katharine Hays, Kristin and Katelyn Heaton; and a brother, Nelson Miner of Alvord, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; and a sister, Enid Wilske.
Virginia was born June 29, 1922, the daughter of Nelson and Genevieve (Swartzbaugh) Miner, Sr, in Vinton, Iowa. On April 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Henry O. Heaton in Cedar Rapids. He died December 17, 1994. Virginia was a legal secretary for many years with Shuttleworth & Ingersoll. For over 60 years, she played piano and organ for many events, including the organist for Beatty-Beaurle-Murdoch Funeral Home. Virginia was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and also an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed visiting shut-ins. Virginia will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
