Virginia A. Barber “vab”, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, August 9, 2013, at West Ridge Care Center. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Marion Christian Church by Rev. Peter Mitchell. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three children, Linda (Leland) Osmundson of Alburnett, Eileen Barber-Goodwin of Cedar Rapids and Bruce Barber (Christine Steuck) of Champaign, Illinois; four grandchildren, Charlyn (Blair) Lightfoot of Marion, Tony (Erika) Osmundson of Ames, Todd (Allison) Barber of Fishers, Indiana, and Gina Barber of Indianapolis, Indiana; and five great-grandchildren, Maxwell Lightfoot and Zoey Lightfoot, both of Marion, Cade Osmundson and Emery Osmundson, both of Ames and Grace Barber of Fishers, Indiana; sister, Jeanne (James) Carter of Cedar Rapids; and niece and nephew, Carol Wientjes and Jim Carter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, N. Earl Barber; son-in-law, David R. Goodwin; and a great-grandson, Noah Lightfoot.
Virginia was born October 26, 1931, the daughter of Floyd and Margaret (Williams) Emmons in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Marion High School. On November 23, 1950, she married N. Earl Barber at Marion Christian Church. They celebrated their 60th anniversary. Virginia was employed at the Cedar Rapids School District for over 30 years.
Virginia was a 50 year member of Chapter CS PEO; Daughters of the Nile; and El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary.
She enjoyed card games and was an avid bingo player. She mostly adored spending time with her great-grand babies, family and friends. She enjoyed wintering at their home in Apache Junction, Arizona.
