Virgil F. Heins, 83, a lifelong resident of Center Point, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.

Survivors include a son, Ron (Susan) Heins of rural Urbana, Iowa; a daughter, Glenda (Steven) Huffaker of Caldwell, Idaho; five grandchildren, Lana (Mark) Heins-Johnson, Ryan (Lori) Heins, Matthew (Brooke) Heins, Jason (Vicky) Huffaker and Jana (Chris) Homeyer; 11 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Heins of Center Point.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and an infant great-grandson, Bradley.

Virgil was born September 27, 1921, the son of Harry and Margaret Minor Heins, in Center Point, Iowa. A 1939 Center Point High School graduate, he was united in marriage to Marian Wachal on October 2, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She died July 2, 1999. A farmer, real estate broker, and an auctioneer for many years, Virgil was first known as the "Kid Auctioneer? as his career began as a teenager. He sold the last cow at the Cedar Rapids Sales Barn when it closed. Besides crying many household and farm sales, he also sold at the Vinton Sale Barn for 28 years and several years at the Walker Sale Barn. In later years, his passion for raising Belgian Draft Horses gave him much pleasure. Virgil served on the Center Point School Board for 18 years and for 12 years on the Linn County School Board. He also served on the Linn County Condemnation Board for several years. Virgil was a member of the First Christian Church in Center Point where he served as a deacon.

The family will would like to thank the Winslow House, Willow Gardens and Mercy Hospice for their care given to Virgil.
