Viola Janice (Roszell) Slater, 86, of Marion, died May 29, 2016. Memorial Services: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Janice was born September 24, 1929, in Bonner Springs, Kansas. She lived in Vinton, Iowa, as a child before moving to Marion where she graduated from Marion High School. On June 12, 1949, Janice married Charles Lincoln Slater. They raised three daughters, Lynda (Cal) Pearson of McCallsburg, Iowa, Sandy (Phil) Krumm of Center Point, Iowa, and Nora (Marcos) Ramirez of Lubbock, Texas.
Chuck and Janice were longtime members of Valley View Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids where they served faithfully. Janice loved the Lord, enjoyed reading the Bible, especially the Psalms and was a tireless prayer warrior.
Janice is survived by her husband, Chuck; daughters, Lynda and Sandy; six grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Gates of Roland, Iowa, Susan (Jeff) Bolen of El Paso, Texas, Kristy (Kent) Bruck of Omaha, Nebraska, Vicki (Andy) Henderson of Omaha, Nebraska, Tyler Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas, and Ashlynn Ramirez of Lubbock, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Emma and Ella Bolen, Parker, Delaney, and Grayson Bruck, and Aiden Henderson.
Janice’s surviving siblings include Dorothy Bates, John, Bill, and Joe Roszell of Neosho, Missouri, and Jacqueline McClendon of Joplin, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nora Ramirez; her parents, Dale and Stella Roszell; and siblings, Rhoda Boisen, Ann Minars, Mort Roszell, and Kenyon Roszell.
