Vincent J. Keegan, 85, of Ryan, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019, following a short illness at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Scripture Service: 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ryan. Visitation: 3 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the church. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at the church officiated by Father Gabriel Anderson. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan. Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #692 of Ryan. Arrangements by Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester.
Vincent was born February 11, 1933, in Ryan, Iowa. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School in Ryan and served in the United States Army. Vincent was united in marriage to Freida Barfuse and she passed away on January 8, 1989. He co-owned Keegan and Reiss Insurance Agency. Vincent was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a 50+ year member of the Ryan American Legion Post #692, and also a member of the Ryan Lions Club. Vince was a realtor and insurance agent. He was “Mr. Ryan”, being the mayor, organizer, and friend. Vince was instrumental in the healing and rebuilding of Ryan and St. Patrick’s Church after the tornado. He was proud of his Irish heritage, his church, and his town.
He is survived by his sister, Catherine McCusker of Ryan; and devoted friends, Rick (Carrie) Wolfe of Marion and Karen (Marvin) Ries of Ryan; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Vincent was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda; parents; and three sisters, Veronica Kester, Lavina Claus and Rita Keegan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Vincent’s memory.
