Victor “Vic” Lee Becker, 60, of Alburnett, Iowa, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, from complications of a genetic disease. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Dan Peterson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, January 15, at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett.
Survivors include his bride of 39 years, Sue; daughter, Cara (Justin) Dix of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Libby, Andrew and Audrey Dix; his mother, Dorothy Becker of Belle Plaine; three brothers, Bill (Joanne) Becker of Fairfax, Joe (Susan) Becker of Diagonal and Brian (Becky) Becker of Keota; three sisters, Sharon (Marv) Schulte of Marengo, Mary (Dan) Behaunek and Marlys (Duane) Siefken, both of Belle Plaine; and sister-in-law, Cindy Becker (Chuck) of Washburn.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nic; his father, Wilbert; brother, Ed; and nephew, Zachary.
Vic was born October 9, 1952, the son of Wilbert and Dorothy (Thompson) Becker, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On February 2, 1974, he was united in marriage to Sue Titler in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Vic was a longtime dairy farmer. In 1984, he won the Outstanding Young Holstein Breeder Award for his exceptional management of his Holstein herd. Vic loved showing cattle and one of his proudest moments was winning the All-Hawkeye Junior Yearling with his “special” heifer, Blossom, who also received second place in her class at the World Dairy Expo in 1974.
As a 4-H member, Vic won the I Dare You Award. His love of 4-H continued through his mentoring of brothers, sisters, children, nieces, nephews and friends in showing cattle. He also hosted many dairy workshops for Linn County Youth.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
