Victor H. Billhorn, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, died July 2, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa following a sudden illness.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, by Rev. Jean Rabary. Friends may call from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Victor was born June 14, 1922, the son of Arlie and Ruth (Rossow) Billhorn north of Manchester, near Thorpe. Victor attended rural schools through eighth grade and graduated from Manchester High School in 1939. Victor worked on the family farm. On May 14, 1944 Victor was united in marriage to Eileen Utley at Community Congregational Church in Manchester. He served for a short time in the United States Army. In 1945, Victor & Eileen moved to a farm in Milo Township where they raised four sons and a daughter. The couple retired from farming in 1970 and moved to Manchester in 1974. For the next eighteen years, Victor worked as the Property Loss Adjuster for Delaware County Mutual Insurance Association.
Victor was a member of First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #45 of Manchester. Victor and Eileen liked to travel, fish, and visit with friends and relatives.
Victor is survived by his wife, Eileen Billhorn of Manchester; five children, Steven (Wilma) Billhorn of Manchester, John (Donna) Billhorn of Prairie du Sac, WI, Susan (Jerry) Lee of Manchester, Lance (MarJean) Billhorn of Manchester and Alan (Diana) Billhorn of Des Moines; ten grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Funke, Cynthia (Roy) Schmucker, Sheridan Billhorn (Ally Koch), Jennifer (Scott) Evert, Shelly Arrieta, William Billhorn, Joni (Karl) Blau, Kelly (Andrea) McDowell, Sara Billhorn and Kathy Billhorn; seven great-grandchildren; and many cousins and friends.
Victor is preceded in death by his parents, Arlie & Ruth Billhorn.
A memorial fund has been established.
