Veronica was born November 27, 1930, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew “George” and Mary “Mayme” (Pins) Leibold. On May 23, 1950, Veronica married John “Bud” Weber in Prairieburg, Iowa.
Vee Weber was many things to many people - wife, sister, friend - but first and foremost, she was a wonderful mother to her 12 children and grandmother to her 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Her family was everything to her.
Vee loved spending time with all of them. She never missed a family gathering. Her spunky, fun-loving, hilarious, strong, and caring personality created family gatherings that will forever be the best times of our lives. Her warm smile, laughs, and genuine interest in every one she met led many of her kids’ friends to call her Mom too. Even with 12 kids, there was always room in her heart for more. That’s the kind of amazing Mom she was!
Vee loved life and lived everyday to the fullest. She worked at Ertl Toy Company and Polo Plastics Factory; she worked alongside her husband, Bud, at their pallet factory, JayVee MFG; she drove and delivered Winnebago Motorhomes, all over the United States; she cooked for several area businesses (best fried chicken ever!); and was the owner of Vee’s Country Crafts for 15 years, until her retirement in 2000.
Bud and Vee also established a campground along the Maquoketa River, below the Delhi Dam. They spent many weekends entertaining family and friends building wonderful lifelong memories.
In her free time, Vee was always looking for a friendly game of cards. She loved to play Horsedeal, 31, and Euchre with friends, neighbors, and family. She also was known to sneak off to the casino occasionally - she loved to play the nickel slot machines! And she loved to dance. She met her special friend, Gerald Michael, four years ago at a dance in Independence - which they continued to enjoy attending on Friday nights. Gerald was a great addition to our crazy family - he fit right in!
Vee was also an amazing seamstress. She has passed her talent and skills down to many of her children and grandchildren. She made quilts for all her grandkids and great grandkids for graduation presents and gave many as gifts to special people in her life.
And finally, anyone that knew Vee also knows she made the best homemade bread and pies. Her baked goods were a treasure at every family gathering and were enjoyed by many people in the community. Helping Grandma make bread was always a lot of fun for the grandkids too.
Vee will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, friend, and teacher. Her zest for life was contagious and she shared her love of playing cards, baking, sewing, and living life to the fullest with everyone she met. Vee passed away peacefully Aug 19, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospice, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by the love of her family.
Survivors include her twelve children, Norma Weber of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Jim) Nehl of St. Joseph, MO, Nancy Weber (Gary Neurohr) of Stockton, MO, Tom Weber of Prescott, AZ, Sue Kramer, Paula (John) Hargrafen, and John (Chrystal) Weber of Hopkinton, Cathy (Bob) Aldrich of Langworthy, Roger Weber of Irvine, CA, Jayne (Kenny) Kirschbaum of Garner, Wayne Weber, and Margo (Rick) Bojorquez of Delhi; special friend, Gerald Michael of Vinton, 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella White of Dyersville, and Katie Harms of Anamosa.
Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, John Weber; parents George and Mayme Leibold; a grandson, Joshua Weber; brother LaVerne Leibold, and sister, Margaret White.
