Vernon Claus Jons, 88, of Walker, Iowa, died Saturday, January 24, 2009. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Center Point, by the Rev. Dan Johnson. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, George (Cheryl) Jons of Jacksonville, Texas, Vernon (Joy) Jons of Walker, Allen Jons of Marion and Bonnie (Gale) Mathews of Jesup; twelve grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; son, Richard Jons; granddaughter, Pamela Jons; great grandson, Brandon Jons; and brothers, Fred, Arlie and Lester.
Vernon was born September 22, 1920, in Odgen, Iowa, the son of Henry and Johanna (Heldt) Jons. On January 31, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Marion Lentz. She died September 25, 1980.
A memorial fund has been established in Vernon’s memory.
