Vernon F. Jons, 63, of Walker, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Kevin Jennings. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joy; his children, Kim Jons, Kenny (Christine) Jons, all of Walker, Becky (Matthew) Coppess of Center Point, and John Jons of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Eric, Jessica and Veronica Jons, Nicole and Kyle Coppess; two brothers, George (Cheryl) Jons of Texas and Allen Jons of Marion; and a sister, Bonnie (Gale) Mathews of LaPorte City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard.
Vernon was born December 2, 1946, the son of Vernon and Marion (Lentz) Jons, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On February 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to Joy Bickford in Walker. Vernon enjoyed trucking, farming, four wheeling and camping.
